Confident and gutsy passing the football, with a compact, quick release. Goes through his progressions quickly and shows nice touch in getting the ball to his receivers. Pretty mobile in the pocket and can throw on the run. Has good leadership qualities and solid size for the position.
Doesn't flash top-tier arm strength and will wobble passes on deeper throws. Sometimes takes a few too many risks with his targetting and doesn't back it up by zipping his passes. Must show he can adjust his approach and technique to the NFL game.
Savvy, quick-throwing QB with upside.

Pats get Brady-insurance Garoppolo signed | 06/02/2014 3:37 PM
Patriots signed No. 62 overall pick QB Jimmy Garoppolo to a four-year contract.
Recently deemed "disaster insurance" by owner Bob Kraft, Garoppolo won't be taking meaningful snaps any time soon. A good athlete with average arm strength, Garoppolo was highly efficient in a quick-hitting college spread offense, but often struggled when pressured. He also lacks ideal hand size (9 1/4"), and will have to rework his lower-body mechanics.
Kraft: Jimmy Garoppolo 'disaster insurance' | 05/29/2014 8:42 PM
Appearing on NFL Network, Patriots owner Robert Kraft called second-round QB Jimmy Garoppolo "disaster insurance."

Kraft went on to say he hopes it's a "long time" before Garoppolo has to play. Tom Brady is signed through 2017, but going on 37. Even players as good as Brady can suddenly fall off a cliff at that age.
Jimmy G hasn't thought about replacing Brady | 05/14/2014 11:25 AM
No. 62 overall pick Jimmy Garoppolo said he hasn't thought about eventually replacing Tom Brady.

We see it as a poor bet to ever happen. Brady is signed through 2017 and Garoppolo's rookie contract will expire in 2017. Furthermore, the Eastern Illinois product brings pocket presence, arm strength and hand size questions to the table. Ryan Mallett has attempted four passes since the Patriots took him in the third round of the 2011 draft.
