Has a knack for getting into the backfield, thanks to great size, power, speed, and quickness. An instinctive reactor and deep penetrator who can manhandle blockers with superior leverage and superb hand technique.
Isn't a pure tackler in space and will lose his man at times. Must develop a more consistent first step, and needs work on handling double coverage. Somewhat injury-prone.
Star-level defensive tackle.

Gerald McCoy has shed about 20 pounds in the offseason.
"That's a lot," McCoy said. "It's just been diet and working. It's taken a lot of focus and dedication." It's unclear what McCoy exactly weighs now; the Pro Bowl defensive tackle is listed at 300 pounds on both the team and league websites, but it's hard to see him playing at 280. Nevertheless, it is likely he's seeking to get quicker.
